Come and join the OSDC for our eighth Week Social. This week will  be a film screening og Inside Out.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control centre inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

The film has been praised for helping to explain mental health and emotions to children.

The location for the social will be Doctorow Hall at St Edmund Hall. Here is a map of St Edmund Hall: https://www.seh.ox.ac.uk/sites/default/files/map%20of%20main%20site%201072.jpg

Directions to the room: St Edmund Hall’s Porter’s Lodge is on Queen’s Lane, just off High Street. To get to the Doctorow Hall, go through the Porter’s Lodge into Front Quad. Go straight on (avoiding the grass) to the opposite side of Front Quad. Go through the archway (labelled with “College Office (Staircase V)” on the map). Go straight on through the glass doors ahead of you and go past the Pontigny Room, through the door directly ahead of you. To use the lift, turn right immediately and the lift will be in front of you. Go up to the top. If you don’t need to use the lift go up the stairs directly in front of you and go through the door on the right. Climb the stairs directly in front of you and head straight forwards to the lift. Go through the room directly ahead of you and turn left. On the map, the Doctorow Hall is labelled as “Doctorow Hall and Chough Room” near the top.

I will be waiting in the porters lodge for ten minutes at the start of the social to take anyone to the room, and I will also put out signs. We will be starting the film at about 7:15.

The room is wheelchair accessible and the film will have English subtitles. If you have any other accessibility requirements or anything that would make the space more comfortable for you, please email susanna.riley@seh.ox.ac.uk.

Feel free to drop into the social at any point. There are always plenty of new people so don’t worry if you haven’t been before. The socials are very relaxed and we will provide a wide variety of hot beverages and biscuits for your consumption. You don’t have to identify as disabled to come to the social.
